National Groundwater Awareness Week is March 5- 11!

Annual testing of public water systems is mandatory; no such requirement’s exists for water from private wells unless a property is being sold. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends private well water is tested annually for coliform bacteria and nitrates and every 3 to 5 years for heavy metals and volatile organics.

Testing will protect the health of everyone who uses your private well. If contaminants are found there are many ways to filter them out of the water.

Protecting your health and testing your well water should not break the bank. The nonprofit Raritan Headwaters Association offers free advice on well water testing and cost-effective well water testing options. Tests are purely voluntary and participant information is confidential. To view the full list of tests and associated costs, go to www.raritanheadwaters.org
