Registered Environmental Health Specialist

Description : Branchburg Township (Somerset County) is seeking a full-time REHS.
Applicants must possess a valid New Jersey Registered Environmental Health Specialist license and valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
About the position: Highly responsible and investigative position requiring the enforcement of relevant public health laws. Performs responsible professional work in promoting and protecting public health through education, consultation and enforcement of federal, state, and local health laws and regulations. Travel on a daily basis or as needed throughout the Township of Branchburg. Certification as a Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor, Community Noise Enforcement Certification, Trained Pool Operator Certificate or NJ Pesticide Applicator License is preferred.
Duties include: Retail food establishment inspections, issuance of sanitary ratings, procedure review. Review site plans for new food establishments that adhere to Chapter 24 regulations. Witness soil log procedures. Inspection of onsite sewage disposal systems; design review and approval. (N.J.A.C. 7:9A). Inspection of public recreational bathing facilities. Inspection of tanning salons. Inspections of kennels/pet shops. Investigation of rodent and pest control problems, suggestion of abatement procedures. Inspection of youth camps. Inspection of daycare centers. Assist with data compilation for monthly Health Officer’s Report. Issue summons and court appearances and testimony as required. Investigation of environmental health complaints, enforcement action as necessary including violation notices and enforcement of Public Health codes and regulations. Conduct lead investigations and follow ups. Witnessing installation of wells for potable and non-potable sources. Provide education and information on a variety of environmental and other housing problems, e.g.: water, radon, mold, etc. Conducts epidemiological investigations and surveillance of communicable disease control. Assistance in operation in local health clinics and prevention programs. Responding to emergency health situations in case of fire, flood, hazardous spills and other emergencies. On-call Roster occasional weekends/evenings. Salary DOQ.
