PUBLIC NOTICE - RABIES ALERT

Public Notification
A wild fox has tested positive for rabies from the area of Vollers Drive in Branchburg. 
In order to protect family and pets, residents should do the following:
  • Ensure that all dogs, cats, and ferrets that are household pets are current on their rabies vaccinations.
  • Do not approach, touch, or feed wild animals.
  • Do not approach strays or pets other than your own.
  • Report any usual behavior in stray or wild animals to the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter (908) 725-0308 or the Branchburg Police Department (908) 526-3830.
  • Report all animal bites immediately to the Branchburg Health Department (908) 526-1300x183 during business hours or the Branchburg Police Department after business hours (908) 526-3830.
  • If your pet is bitten by a wild animal, contact your veterinarian immediately. Animals that are current on their rabies vaccination will need boosters. Unvaccinated animals will need to get vaccinated and will be quarantined for up to four months.
  • If you are bitten by a wild animal, contact your physician immediately.
